Marques McCammon Joins Aptera As CMO
Thursday, Nov 6, 2008 2:48 PM ET
Aptera, the Vista, Calif.-based maker of Jetson-esque three-wheel electric cars, has hired Marques McCammon, former Saleen executive, as CMO. He replaces branding consultant Tony Kirton, who will continue as a consultant supporting McCammon's marketing team.
The firm says McCammon helped create the Dodge SRT-4 performance compact and the SRT sub-brand.
Aptera recently opened its second facility in the north San Diego suburbs, where the company will ultimately roll out its first production vehicle, the all-electric Aptera 2e. The company says the two-seat 2e, slated for full production in 2009, gets up to 300 miles per gallon.
During the first week in his new position, McCammon, along with Aptera President and CEO Paul Wilbur, selected PCGCampbell as the company's new public relations and communications agency.--Karl Greenberg

Is it just me, or is aptera starting to get REALLY top heavy? How many marketing and customer realtions type people do you need when you don't even have a product yet, and likely have a waiting list that is about 1.5-2 years long?

How many line workers do you need when you're not commercially producing yet?
As of this article (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/uptospeed/2008/09/aptera-electr-1.html), Aptera had about 50 employees. How many of them can you name? Only high ranking people make news. Which is unfortunate, as those people doing design and fabrication deserve a ton of credit.

Since many of these people come from "muscle car" backgrounds" I now expect a a better 0-60 time:) Did anyone notice that AC Propulsion is supplying the motor/controller for the mini EV, I expect it is tuned down but a couple software changes and if it is the same usual spec the car would be a hot rod.

You notice that the Mini-E is to have an $850/mo lease? Yeouch.
"Muscle Car backgrounds" - This is irrelevant.
I think the more significant attribute about Saleen and the exec hires is the "nice vehicle market". This says more about what Aptera will need to do at the tactical level - good pairing of people to the task! On the surface, I'd say the board is doing some good moves here. The company needs to make a niche first, then defend it vigorously as they grow. Of course, Paul Wilbur might have something to do with that too... :)

So when they start production..Like Henry Ford...How many can they produce a day/week/month in the new facility and with the new production design? Oh and where
are those pictures?:aptera:

I'm with A1phaGeek: I'm just waiting to hear more. It's not a very good move for a company to keep their devoted fans in the dark this long. Secret Strategy or no, the Aptera is alluring enough to merit SOME sort of ongoing response to us Fans. THROW US A BONE, PEOPLE!
