Observations:

* Aptera keeps growing like a weed. We can only expect this to continue throughout next year.
* Given the situation at the Big Three, I don't expect them to have any trouble leeching talent from Detroit at this point.
* I'd expect that this means that deliveries up until February will only be to people within the company (which seems likely at this point).
* I don't think anyone here would have a problem with them having a new face whose job it is to be "developing a loyal, repeating, and evangelical customer base". I read that as increased consumer interaction.
* I find this line very interesting: "as we re-invent the means by which automobiles are sold to the end-user customer."

Oh, and they're also looking for an electrical engineer:

They mainly seem to care about getting someone who's been involved in designing automotive electrical systems, esp. people with EV design experience.

They might lease a number of pre-production models to employees for "beta-testing". And since they aren't going start deliveries to the general public during the first two weeks (or even two months) of this guy's employment, the official launch probably won't happen till April. Note that "recommending pricing" is mentioned as part of job description.

Also, the launch by delivering the keys for 2e #1 to Steve Fambro is not good publicity. If they are going to make a big deal out of the launch (journalists & stuff), they will deliver #1 to a non-employee. Steve might quietly get #2.

Interesting thread. Really good to see that Aptera is growing. To me this indicates not only planning for the releas of the Aptera 2e, but also for future products and company growth. All the best to Aptera for the future.

Esmith: pretty good statement until you said "Also, the launch by delivering the keys for 2e #1 to Steve Fambro is not good publicity." Where did this bit of info come from? I have never seen this even suggested anywhere other than idle speculation in this forum. While it may be acceptable to say "I suspect that they will deliver the first.. to Steve...", what you posted is idle speculation cloaked in the appearance of fact. Sorry, but I consider that to be poor form. Yes, we are all guilty of it.

We ALL need to consider just what we say and how we say it.

I misspoke.

I meant to say: "it would not be good publicity for them to launch the 2e by giving the keys for #1 to Steve Fambro" (or any other employee, for that matter).

That is why I don't _think_ that they'll deliver anything to any employee before the official public launch, except maybe as a lease/beta-test.

It is often assumed in this forum that they'll start production by selling a number of vehicles to insiders, and I want to question this assumption.

Why? It's what Tesla did, after all.

I think they will deliver the first one to an insider, but they wont "call in the press" until they have an "outside" customer.

Not that they wont get some pr out of a delivery to the founder, because they will.

It seems they are planning a relatively low-key roll-out. In reply to my suggestion below that they have a party and invite us all to watch the first dozen being delivered, the customer service rep replied:
Although, that would be a great idea, we will produce limited volumes initially and then gradually ramp up production throughout 2009. We will provide an approximate build schedule in the future, so stay tuned.

I'm thinking that Steve F. will *never* "own" a production vehicle for the next 5 years.

As the co-founder and primary tinkerer, I think it is entirely possible that he will be driving a series of test beds, prototypes and pre-production versions. The 2h (or 2g?) is still being developed, and after that, the 4-seat Palomar project, both the 4e and 4h versions, and who knows what else after that. Pickup trucks? Delivery vans? I suspect that there are a lot of projects to keep Aptera busy enough so that Steve will not be satisfied with a production model, but want to stay on top of the cutting edge of development.

Dude - I'm happy to be a Beta tester, and I'll pay for the thing!
