Am I the only one that has a problem with Aptera saying "We've presold over 4000"? They haven't pre-sold anything....there are 4000 people in line to POSSIBLY buy.
Am I being overly critical?

Your right nothing has been pre-sold. Maybe he is trying to sell that to get more investors? It's targeted @ business week audience. It's a strange statement indeed.

"We've pre-sold more than we can make right now"
A very telling statement there. We all know "pre-sold" was not entirely accurate, but the *back-order* quantity could be approaching a number that will be quite a challenge to fill in the time frame they've set.
Steve also mentions the latest difficulty is getting suppliers to respond quickly enough to their requests. This might become a rate limiter in production.

Pre-Sold sure is a mis-nomer here...........4000 'maybes' is more like it. But that's marketing for you

Also in the short Aptera testdrive Steve states the same: YouTube Deeplink (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q2ovG0Y7f0#t=0m26s)

I'll agree that "pre-sold" is not entirely true.
The term "4,000 deposits taken" would be more accurate, and just as impressive, delivering the punch that the marketing department wants.
I'll cut Steve F. some slack. He was an engineer, then a prez, back to engineer (sort of), and now sales rep. Those are tough transitions to make, but Steve seems like such a nice guy with such a great product, 4,000 pre-sold is nothing to get upset about.

Didn't Steve F say in Josh's video that he was happy to give a ride to a "pre-order" rather than a "pre-sale"? In my mind pre-order (as in I just might be interested in ordering one when my number comes up) may be more accurate than pre-sold (as in they have already been ordered, but just not quite sold yet ). Maybe Steve is just suffering from a little Freudian slip. He WANTS all those pre-orders to become pre-solds so badly that he mis-speaks. Of course, the lock-in's then blur the line between pre-orders and pre-solds even more... of course, "deposits taken" is the most accurate!
