Does anyone have information the XPRIZE reward that is offering $10 million to the first company to manufacture a car that gets 100 MPG? The company that is expected to take the prize is Aptera. Their Typ-1 blows that mark to shreads. It should get 300 MPG.

Eddie: Here is the X-Prize website:

http://auto.xprize.org/

From there you can open links to the actual guidelines, which involve more than merely achieving 100 MPG. For example, I believe that the cost of the vehicle (at 10,000 produced per year) must be at "market levels." Perhaps that's the reason that Tesla doesn't qualify...? It certainly rules out any fuel cell vehicle, that's for sure! I also believe that tandem seating isn't allowed, which would rule out the VentureOne --but that might change. We'll see.

I have no voice in the decision, but I'd vote for Aptera, no question.

My money is on Aptera. There are a few other companies out there that have a shot, but Aptera is the closest right now. $10,000,000 should help the company quite a bit.
