Just got this (link removed):

==========
Hello!

We've opened a new poll for apteraforum.com Users. According to its results, we will try to make our Forum Better! Please, take part!

Alexadmins

==========
Looking at it I seriously thought it was from the admins, when I clicked on the link wanting to help improve the forum, (hope nothing bad happened) it had nothing to do with Aptera.

Anyway to require that a user posts publicly before they can send PM's? Might help to weed out undesirable elements.

Also, should we just delete PM spams or would you (admins) like to see them so you can deal with the users? If you would like to see them, could you provide a box for such?

Thanks,

Yeah, more of the same PM BS here... And from a user with 0 posts.

How about this? Add the ability to FLAG a personal message as SPAM. Anyone getting over 3 PM's marked as SPAM would have their accounts frozen and reviewed for deletion automatically?

I think that would cut a lot of this SPAM BS out, and make the forum a much less unpleasant experience for everyone.

Great idea, hope someone looks into it.

Sadly, it probably still won't work.
They drift in, post their spam, and fade away.

If at all possible, the powers-that-be ought to adjust new accounts so that their signup "welcome" message states that their PMs (and maybe postings) are ignored until the account is at least a day old, or some other equivalent.

If it is a spambot, it won't read the welcome, and their odious PMs will simply land in cyber quarantine forever. Problem solved.

good idea.

i've commented on several posts to the admins to have them removed. they are pretty prompt in deleting them. But you have to be able to recognize them as spam...

That's a feature of phpBB, I don't think vBulletin has it
