Really nice to hear people talk positive about ev's.

Are they not available yet?
In the last month, I've seen 6 different Smart cars running around Orange County.
Can't say I'm crazy about stuffing myself into one of those:eek:
They look kinda cute though.

Well the Gas versions are available. Where I live the Smart is on the streets since 1998. The Smart is small on the outside but really roomy in the inside so sqeezing is out of the question. :D But there is also a full EV version that they build but it is not for sale to the public. And this movie is a great example that there are forces outthere preventing ev's on the road. The only thing you get out of these people is bla bla bla.

This is a link to a story about recent crash tests on the Smart ForTwo.

Note the emphasis about safety concerns by potential buyers due to its size. Also, the note the rating is against cars in its class - a larger car can have a lower rating and still be safer. It's interesting that Smart designed in a steel safety cage. Tons of reservations for a car that is nowhere near as economical as an Aptera.

A link to the IIHS results (http://www.iihs.org/news/rss/pr051408.html)
There is also a painfully slow loading video link on this page.
But here's the YouTube version:

A couple of things I noted: On the frontal crash, the dummy used all the available distance decelerating into the airbag before smacking its head on the steering wheel. Now that's designing down to the last decimal place!
Side impact crashworthiness was "Good" and from the pictures it seems they use only an in-seat airbag. Perhaps Aptera can do the same.
Cheers

Speaking of Smarts.........

That's right, the S.Q.U.I.Ds have a car. Though even I admit it looks like fun
