As we seem to be in the aptera news doldrums, I was re-reading the USA today piece, among others. The line that struck me:
"The goal is to produce two or three cars a week once production begins."
Which with a line position in the high 800s, I should receive my aptera in the summer of 2014. The upside, imagine how battery technology will have advanced by then.~

They intend to start slow, but they will quickly ramp up the production rate in 2009. I got this answer when I asked for some information about production rates. I hope this eases your mind about when to expect to receive your car.
I prefer they start slow. They will surely find some improvements in the production process and by the time they reach a few hundred cars they should have a pretty sound and reliable process. Then they can ramp up to full speed.

Hello,
Our current production goals are to build 2500 vehicles by the end of 2009. The majority of those vehicles will be made in 2009. How soon we release the hybrid after the all electric is still being determined.
Thanks,

From what I understand they're after the X prize and I think you have to be able to build more than 2500 units a year , I am not shure on the exact number , to win. Maybe some one else is more familiar with the latest x prize rules.

I found this on the downloadable PDF guidelines for AXP:
Cost • Need details on how cost and manufacturability will be judged. Note that the target production rate is at least 10K/year (i.e., not just 10K).

2,500 by the end of 2009 is a good number especially considering GM only ever produced 1,117 EV-1s . Hoping if Aptera wins the x-prise the cash will go into improvements, expansion. Or blow it on a weekend in Vegas.
