Of course, the DoE still has to actually approve their application. But I seriously doubt they'll be turned down. The 2e is the sort of thing Chu would drool over.

I doubt they'll be turned down, but it may still take several months for the application to be accepted. There's a lot of red tape involved. Presumably, the first time around they did not get much more than a perfunctory check: "3 wheels? not eligible. NEXT!"

Quite possible.

I noticed that Dennis Kucinich, generally considered very progressive, was one of the 7 members of his party to vote against this bill. Anybody know why? Both senators (representing both parties) from his state of Ohio voted for it.

I think Kucinich is the one who should have been in the White House since he is so Progressive, but that aside, I would think that he might have voted against it since I think he might have thought it would threaten the auto industry in his own district. But I shouldn't be speaking for him, and I would suggest you contact him directly on his website. He's a good guy, I'm sure he would or his staff would offer some kind of response. I will leave him a comment as well. IMHO

Kucinich is a joke. As a proud liberal who has met him a few times the extent to which he has pulled the wool over people's eyes is amazing. At his core he's nothing but a scheming politician who says what he says because it differentiates him from the other Beltway politicians and gives him enthusiastic crowds.

I've asked him point blank questions any liberal wants an answer to and he never once gave me a straight answer. He plays the game too well for my tastes.

Hmmm. I met him once, and he seemed far more like a real person than I expected, willing to talk at some length with me. That meeting inspired me to find a way to meet my own congressperson, and she (Anna Eshoo) felt far more political to me than Dennis did.

Not to get too political, but Kucinich has been saying some pretty level-headed stuff on the health care bills, taking a leadership role in government accountability to the people (as opposed to the corporations); in particular, about cost containment. In the political debate, words matter and he's made some very good points on behalf of the well-being of his constituents, for a better national discussion. No one's perfect, but I'm glad at least someone is saying what he is.

He says a lot of level headed stuff, so do a lot of other politicians, they are still politicians however. My criticism of Kucinich is that I don't trust him, as much a gut feeling from the time I've spent with him than anything. He plays the game well though.
