FRANKLIN, Tenn. (October 22, 2009)
Nissan North America announced that the Nissan LEAF zero-emission, all-electric car will make its North American debut in Los Angeles on Nov. 13. The Los Angeles showing will be the first time people in the United States will be able to see the five-passenger, five-door, gasoline-free car, which is embarking on a nationwide tour. Southern California - Los Angeles: Nov. 13-17, Orange County: Nov. 18, San Diego: Nov. 19-21

And the leaf uses more than twice as much energy per mile, and only has 100 miles range on the LA4 cycle instead of at 75mph fully loaded, and I'd be willing to put money on any pack-included purchase price being more than the 2e. So?

They're different vehicles suiting different market niches.

Nissan plans to sell the car but are leaning towards leasing the battery, the total cost of ownership would be at least 100% higher than the Aptera 2e. You'll pay through the nose for the monthly battery leases, and pay more than twice in electric bills per mile.

I really don't like the Nissan leaf body. Nissan is also amongst the least reliable Japanese cars based on consumer reports chart that I posted a couple of days ago.

i will say that since i signed up at the leaf site i have received 2 emails in a month from nissan about the leaf...

i wish aptera would send me an email every 2 weeks...heck every 2 months would be an improvement...

but that is a horse beaten many times over...

and nissan is going on a cross country tour with the leaf...

maybe aptera can do the same when they get that gov't loan?

i still love the aptera, but they HAVE to get nationwide almost immediately or mits and nissan will eat their lunch...and if honda and toyota ever completely wake up and work a bit faster on EVs, well that would be another nail...

please please please let the best buy rumors be true...i see it as apteras best chance at anything other than being a niche so cal only company. either that or buy all the saturn dealerships with the gov't loan...but that would be more costly and probably way too big of a reach for aptera at this time...best buy would not involve capital or major risk to aptera....

make it so...

As I explained repeatedly, a vehicle with less than twice the mass and less than twice the drag can't possibly use more than twice as much energy per mile. And there's no one to prevent the original poster from installing LRR tires on his Leaf (assuming that Nissan engineers are dimwits and they don't put the best LRR tires on the Leaf to begin with).

But I agree that 2e's advantage in drag matters a lot, because electric range is a strong constraint. It would be much harder for 2h to compete with Volt (or with a PHEV Leaf). The difference between 60-70 miles & 100 miles @ freeway cycle = possible deal breaker. The difference between 50 mpg and 80 mpg, counterbalanced by 3 more seats = tough call.

Esmith, are you trying to start a fight or something? How many times do we have to have this exact same argument in which nobody agrees with you? Does the phrase "let it go" have any meaning to you? If you really want to start this argument up again, do it on one of the half dozen threads that you already did so in. I'm not going to let you bait me into spamming another thread with this exact same argument yet again.

My life has more meaning since I chose to ignore a few here. The serious are so much more interesting.

Newsmakers, politicians and electric car activists gathered today at L.A.’s Dodger Stadium for the kickoff of the Nissan LEAF Zero Emission Tour. The morning’s press conference featured a keynote speech by Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn in which he outlined Nissan’s vision for a zero emission future.

That giant sucking sound you hear filling the silence left by Aptera's inability to deliver and communicate is the the window of opportunity closing on them.

missed this one ...

I don't have any hope of convincing you or any other optimists, I just feel obligated to correct obvious gaps of logic. If I see the same clearly false statement repeated in half a dozen threads, I'll refute it in half a dozen threads.

Nissan Leaf Tour Stop- November 24, 2009 Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek, CA and it's practically on my doorstep. I'm gonna walk the 1/2 mile from my house to see it. I wish it was the Aptera I was going to see instead. Well, hopefully next year. magnru #2783 'TYPE 2H'
