I thought it would be fun to see if any of the recent spate of bad Aptera press was showing in the RRS feed on the bottom of www.aptera.com Strangely enough, it looks like the feed is stuck on the Pop Mech article "Aptera False Rumors". Think Saxony just hard coded that in there till this all blows over?

Earlier today it had the usual, recent stuff, and only the Reuters' article. I was wondering the same thing. Now indeed it seems stuck. Aptera's communication department at work!

Lol. I find this amusing. XD

Possible hint of spin, or are they just trying to promote the truth? Who knows.

Anyone still have a copy of the old version open or in their browser cache? If so, you could always compare the old code to the new code.

I most probably do. I don't close tabs very often, and while that can have its navigation downfalls, it really helps with things like this. :)

Edit: It's on my other computer, so I'll have to try and get it on there.

Alright, I have the old source code now. PM me if you want it. I'll give you the whole code in the reply. Please note that this isn't the front page, but the Plugin page.

When there's only one story to tell, might as well get rid of the rest!

Yep, the communications department at work. Just when we were wondering whether there's anybody there at all, they crank out this gem. Subtle, informative, no data overload. A job well done. Ah, the joys of a productive day at the office!

I suck at trying to stay out of controversy. :( but...

Wow... it sure looks like they really did rig the front page. I shouldn't be shocked, but I am. Sapphire Dragon just messaged me the old code. Here's how their page used to start:

<div class="rssFeed">
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
var feed = new Array;
var i = 0;
var title = '';
var descp = '';

title = "Aptera Founders Ousted In Showdown ...";
descp = "Aptera Founders Ousted in Showdown With Auto Vets: ReportReutersThe co-founders of Aptera Motors, Steve Fambro and Chris Anthony, did not leave the three-wheeled electric car startup by ...Rift Reported Between Founders and Board at Futuristic Carmaker ApteraXconomyAptera Loses FounderssocalTech.comAptera Founders Ousted in Boardroom ShowdownWired NewsAutoblog (blog)all 7 news articles&nbsp;&raquo;";-

i++;

title = "Three-wheeled Aptera Is Striking, B...";
descp = "Three-wheeled Aptera is striking, but concept is not entirely newLas Vegas Review - JournalAptera 2e -- A wingless airplane native to California that zips along paved highways on three wheels. Aptera company founder Steve Fambro and CEO Paul ...";
feed[i] = '<img src="/i/rssFeed.png" alt="rss feed" width="25" height="25" class="rssFeedImg" style="margin: 0 5px 0 5px;" /> <a href="http://news.google.com/news/url?fd=R&amp;sa=T&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lvrj.co m%2Fdrive%2Fthree-wheeled-aptera-is-striking-but-concept-is-not-entirely-new-69949877.html&amp;usg=AFQjCNFILexyM0weOluPPE1lQmxX zxveQQ" title="' + descp + '" target="_new">' + title + '</a><br /><span class="rssFeedDate">Nov 13, 2009 10:07 AM</span>';

That continues on and on for all news entries. Then it concludes with the javascript that cycles through those:

i = 1;
var is_chrome = navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase().indexOf('chrome' ) > -1;
if(($.browser.mozilla && $.browser.version.substr(0,3)=="1.8") || is_chrome){
$.timer(8000, function (timer) {
$("div#FeedSpace").html(feed[i]);
i++;
if(i >= feed.length){
i = 0;
}
});
}else{
$.timer(8000, function (timer) {
$("div#FeedSpace").fadeOut("slow", function(){
$("div#FeedSpace").html(feed[i]);
$("div#FeedSpace").fadeIn("slow");
i++;
if(i >= feed.length){
i = 0;
}
});
});
}
});
</script>
<div id="FeedSpace">
<img src="/i/rssFeed.png" alt="" width="25" height="25" class="rssFeedImg" style="margin: 0 5px 0 5px;" />

<span class="rssFeedDate">Nov 16, 2009 9:01 PM</span>
</div> </div>

So, see all those news entries and javascript? Now, here's that *entire* section now.

<div class="rssFeed">
<div class="rssFeed">

Gone. Only one hard-coded option. No javascript to rotate it. Ugh.

Come on, Marques... this afternoon I decided to give you all a chance to prove your sincerity, and within 12 hours, this? Rigging the newsfeed to remove negative stories? I had even stayed out of speculating whether it was on purpose or not when the issue came up, and hesitated to even mention that you could just compare the old code and the new code.

Marques is showing the true colors of himself or whomever is pulling his strings.

IMHO, Marques has little respect for aptera followers.

I've been far more impressed with Fambro's communication capacity on video that Marques. Marques has always struck me as flat and sorta thin on passion.

And I'm not a Fambro fan boy, I'm only interested in whomever is the best at connecting and communicating with customers. Frankly, that is obviously NOT one of Marques's strengths.

It's not really his fault. MM and PW came in from the outside. They are from a part of the auto industry that favors the high power, great handling supercar/muscle car type of company. They never "got it" what the Aptera represented. They never understood the purpose of the car. What they saw when they came into the company was a car company that had a lot of potential. Look, here is a startup that has never built a car, and there are thousands of fans just in California. The obviously felt this excitement about the car, but they did not fully understand what caused that excitement. The car was about basic transportation. Simple, safe and efficient. When they arrived and felt this excitement they chose to try and "mass market" this excitement and make the car mainstream. They got panels together and try and figure out what they could change to get even more people excited about this car. They started making changes to the car to make for more mass appeal. The problem is that this process caused them to loose the original concepts for the car and subsequently loose contact with the original core believers in the car. On top of that they never got the car to the point of mass acceptance, so they essentially lost everything. Obviously this was not their intention. There intention was to make the car have mass appeal and sell 100,000 per year. The problem is this car was very unique and was not ever going to be targeted for mass appeal. They should have kept this car simple, safe and efficient, and built it per the founders vision, especially since they did not understand the vision. They could have then built the car that they wanted to make for mass appeal afterward. Once the 2e's where shipping and they were fulfilling the 5,000-10,000 orders they may have gotten for the 2e they could have released or at least started marketing the development of the second model which could have been built for mass appeal. This plan would have taken longer, but it would have kept the company intact. They would still have had the small group of efficient car fans on board, and then they could have started gathering more fans with a car that had more mass appeal.

Anyhow I'm upset the whole thing is turning out this way. The car is now a mess, the company is a mess, and nobody is happy. Not Steve and Chris, not Paul and Marques, not the board, and not the deposit holders. I really hope the company can find a way out and I'll be here on this forum waiting to hear.

Thanks for listening (reading) to my rant.

I completely agree with you there. There were tons of people waiting for the Aptera, and they could easily have sold the first Apteras from the original designs by now. Even if it's not many, it would still bring in more cash for Aptera and would have helped them in the long run. Then they could start redesigning the car for mass appeal.

And no problem. That's what forums are for. :)

So they can update the web site. They have people who can update that code, but not give any other information. Great job!

Oh, come on...

They would be crazy to leave their RSS feed alone and provide links to rumors and mis-information from their home page. Your web site is absolutely where you must present a positive public face. It's ridiculous to criticize Marques for doing what *every* marketing person should have and would have done under similar circumstances.

I am not saying he is doing a good job, but this is not what we should be complaining about.

He is doing what he is paid (no doubt heavily) for. And I agree that you must present a positive public face. But what they did now is provide "only" this piece of info via the rss feed and nothing else. They broke it. But I hope the truth will come out very soon. Then the opinions will be very different.

I used to check the RSS feed each day looking for any scrap of information about the car. That was before I realized they don't give a damn about sharing information with their ethusiasts. I also realized that the forum has been far better at getting me new knowledge about this vehicle, plus the benefits of surrounding myself with other enthusiasts (I haven't been able to recruit anyone into the Aptera following yet). However, I just wonder how many people who were like me before relying on that RSS feed on the Aptera website to get information. I wonder how long it will be before they release the feed. I assume with PW in charge...it will be never. Can't have any dog poop on his overly polished Detroit Corporate loafers. :sign0003: :sign0003:
