Antro in Hungary (http://www.solo-duo.hu/main.php?category=126)
The Solo (which has 3 seats, the Duo seats 6) weighs just 270kg / 596 pounds!

Impressive!
Here's the 6 seat Duo:

Wow, sleek from certain angles...
Its kinda got a movie-prop sci-fi feel to it, but it's growing on me. :)
And this one isn't just a computer graphics rendering...

Interesting. From there web site I also found this photo with a good look at the interior:

Here is a link (http://www.solo-duo.hu/main.php?category=104) for those who want to look at more pictures.
I don't know if I would want to step around one passenger seat to get to the middle "drivers" seat everytime I went somewhere solo... But it sure is a head-turner. It does look like a movie prop!

For some reason the TV show from Britain in the 70s called "UFO" springs to mind when I see this car. That being said, I kind of like it. Fascinating use of wood as a floor, but I'd think it would get scratched up fairly easily. Still, if they were to bring it to market, I'd at least give it some consideration ;)

Wow. At a good price that could give the Aptera a run for its money.
It is quite sexy. Crazy, but sexy.
That said, I don't think it would come close to meeting US safety standards. And I'm not loving the wood floors.
Still they could make the solo three wheels by narrowing the back and sloping it more and then it would be a motorcycle and not need to pass safety standards.
But it is from Hungary...so it ain't coming to the US anyways.

Thanks for the link in English.
It seems they are more dreamers than makers. But dreamers are fun.
The Duo will never be...but that solo could actually be made and done well I think.
Again, they should think about making it a trike with 2 in front and one in back.
At that weight and all, no way it passes car safety testing. But as a motorcycle it is golden.

Acoustically, not certain wood tone laminate for the floors would have the desired dampening one comes to expect from typical vehicle interiors... Probably fairly easy to keep clean, though.

Fun! but the published weight GOAL (for renewable-fuel ICE version) is under 350 kg (770 lb) suggesting closer to 1000 lbs for a battery powered version - which ought to be possible given the historic weight of steel minicars in the 1100-1250 lb range (absent modern safety requirements of course).
Actually I'm a little depressed that Aptera weight expectations have crept up to 1700 lbs from "under 1500 lbs" in the 2008/9 brochure.

Doubling the pack size and switching to FWD will do that to a formerly lightweight design. The original 1500lb 2e was only 150lbs more than a PbA powered NmG.

I just found out that the Antro Solo is an electric/diesel/solar/pedal hybrid! That is a new angle that I have not heard of before...

that is why i disregarded the project...these guys are dreamers...which is nice, but the car isn't going to get made....

It gets 117-157 mpg US, and has a top speed of 87mph. It weighs less than 600 pounds, and seat three people. The battery is apparently fairly small -- it has 15-25km/9-15 miles electric range. The diesel, solar PV, and the pedaling humans all charge the battery -- it's a serial hybrid. And the price they hope to sell it for is ~$20,000.

When will it be available in CA?

Not to be a spoil-sport, but the answer is almost likely "never". :animal0029:

As to some of the design issues-
* The MacLaren M1 has the driver's seat in the middle, and nobody ever complained about that cars ingress.
* Morgans have been built with wooden floors for decades.

Is there supposed to be something new there? Looks like the same old news from a few years ago.

Nothing big, just reviving an old thread. There seem to be some development on the Solo, and a new scooter.

To anyone finding interesting news: don't be afraid to summarize the new developments in a couple of sentences or at least point to exactly where the news is.

If this has been posted before, sorry for the revisit, but one shouldn't forget those that are a head of their time as time catches up to them.
Grote was the Father of Radio Astronomy. He built the lagest one (at that time) in his backyard! Actually is was the only radio receiver actually intended to be for astonomy.
Anyway, amongst his many other interests were building an energy efficient home and an electirc car.
