I found this an interesting read. Mentions Aptera, and several others.

The Fuelvapor Technology car is very innovative. 92mpg! From 0 to 60 in 4 seconds! 400mpg for hybrid! I don't think this car will be as affordable as Aptera. It's more like for people who can afford Tesla.

Just found this on the web;It seems that Aptera has recently backed out of the AXP:
http://www.wikio.com/search/Aptera?wfid=50692230

"The Aptera, which has been the poster child for the entire Automotive X Prize, is forgetting about trying to win that $10 million trophy and getting famous elsewhere—and that elsewhere is on the big screen."

I hope that this is another example of poor reporting, since the Aptera has a great chance in the Alternate Category, and it would be super to see it in the race. I'm sure Aptera can do BOTH a movie and the X-prize. Both would be valuable visibility and PR.

Technologically I think the aptera is very sound, but could it win in a race with a top speed of 85mph?

Would the race end up like Cannonball Run, with each team using its own tricks to win? The faster cars using speed, the aptera using its ability to not have to stop and charge for long distances?

Its interesting to think about how that might turn out unless there are speed limit rules.

Rog,

The race takes place like the end of next year or something. I am sure the filming is finished already. So of course they can do both.

I doubt they have "backed out", but just didn't go to New York for the announcement.

The Aptera's real advantage in an EV race wouldn't be its range, which isn't really all that impressive, but it's incredibly miserly power consumption. Give it a fast charger and it won't take much juice to fill it up quickly.

Or were you referring to the Typ-1h?

(I refuse to call them "Aptera Local" and "Aptera Everywhere" -- what horrible names! "Aptera Typ-1e" sounds like a racecar. "Aptera Local" sounds like an NEV.)

Yeah same here, they have to ditch those names quickly. An "Aptera Local" in my case can drive me out of the country on a charge lol. :D
