Ok, so Th!nk has put out a survey. Go here if you want to fill it out:

The most interesting part to was this:

This electric car is a modern urban compact coupe. With zero emissions and energy efficiency three times that of a traditional combustion engine car, it is a car for the environment. And it is a fun car for you. This electric car allows you to travel up to 110-120 miles in one charge, with a top speed of over 70mph. The net base price will be in the $25,000-$30,000 range.

Second interesting was them asking how interested you would be in a low range car (30 to 40 miles range) for 7500 less, and how interested you would be in a 80 mile range car for...i can't remember, 5k less? vs a 150 mile range car for 5k more...or something like that...

If the 100 to 120 mile range Th!nk is going to be 25 to 30k, well that 80 mile range car would be 20 to 25k before rebates...that could be killer.

In California, if the state rebates still apply, well it could be 20k minus 7.5k fed minus 5k state...an electric car for 10k??? SWEET.

With the LEAF coming at 32k, I do think the City will end up closer to 25K...which will be a good price point for early EVs.

Isn't California flat broke?

since when does that stop a politician from spending money?

As you say, they reveal their thinking in terms of the price of the City here in the USA: $25,000-30,000 net. I read this as after the $7,500 federal tax credit -- but then that assumes that they are selling the battery pack as part of the car, and are not leasing it.

They also ask for suggested features, and whether you would be interested in smaller or larger battery packs, and at what price difference. The "base" version has a 110-120 mile range.

I didn't think the range/price question was that fair.

Who wouldn't pick the 80 mile option? It says the vehicle would be $5,000 cheaper and you still get 80 miles which is very decent.

But if you drop all the way down to 40 the price only reduces by another $2500.

Isn't California flat broke?Different programs have different funding sources. ARB stuff like this tends to be funded from vehicle registrations and/or fees, and aren't impacted much due to the recession like stuff in the budget w/ no specific funding source.
