View Full Version : What will you name you're Aptera?
Aptera #1159
03-25-2008, 08:12 PM
Possible names for mine include the following:
Fish
Jude
Steve
Silence
Stealth
Spy
Snow
Swift
Phil
Ray
What about you? My names are weird, but I want them to be unconventional.
Update: I understand it should be "your" instead of "you're". Sorry. I really have no idea how that happened. I hate using apostrophes. Probably spell/grammar check, although I do not know how it could make that kind of mistake. I would have used "you are".

The name's already pretty apt, isn't it? :)
I'd like a silver one, with "HYO" for a licence plate. I'll think of something else for the Prius.

Ooh, a shiny metallic (or even iridescent) toned Aptera. I can't wait to see the possibilities ;)

There is some material that they can put in plastic to make
it glow in the dark for something like 18 hours after being
well-exposed to light.
Now, I would really like that kind of paint. :D
Does anybody know the properties of this kind of material?
Some "12-hour" paint (http://glowinc.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=2), described as:
Brightness Rating: Very High (~33000)
Duration: Very Long (12+ hours)
Glow Color: Green-Yellow
Daytime Color: Almost Clear with White-Green Tint
Brightest Glow Paint Sold Anywhere
And, further, they say:
Glow Inc.'s brand of glow in the dark paint is a custom formula designed to
maximize brightness in a durable all-purpose paint. The engineers included a
suspension system that supports the relative dense glow in the dark
particles. It contains no fillers or impurities such as ultraviolet filters, which
interfere with glow pigment. As a solvent-based acrylic, it is extremely
durable for indoor and outdoor use and has strong adhesion to almost all
surfaces. Drying time is between 10-15 minutes, but should be allowed to
cure overnight.
Our paints are created by mixing the raw pigment (glow powder) with the
custom designed paint in a ratio of 2 lbs of glow in the dark pigment to 1
gallon of paint. This high ratio along with the high clarity medium results in
the brightest glow in the dark paint sold on the planet.
At $167 per quart, I hope one quart will do the Aptera!
Oh, yes, yes, yes, ... !!! :D
Am I really sick?
Why does this appeal to me so very much?

Hey, it'd be great for nighttime visibility. And for increasing the rate of UFO sightings wherever you drive ;)

I don't know what "you're" Aptera is, but if you meant to ask, "What will you name your Aptera?" then probably something from Ancient Greek. The thinking being Aptera > Crete > Greece.
Apollo has a nice ring to it, but may be too pretentious. Helios? Ares?

I was under the impression that a car always had to be named after a woman, so I was thinking i would name her Ashley. Ashley the Aptera I thnk it has a nice ring to it.

I'm thinking "NoMobil-Mable" for mine. Mable was the name of my first car, a 1958 VW bug with a 36hp sewing machine for an engine. :rolleye0003:

I try not to troll this forum, but the Grammar Nazi in me cannot resist the urge to do a little goose-stepping from time to time.
Oh, and to keep the thread on topic:
"Miranda II"
The original Miranda being the first car I ever drove; an '86 Honda Civic DX Hatchback, in a beautiful burgundy that I haven't seen on a car since. Man, that car was everything... weekend pickup truck, weekday racer... heck, we even used it as a blunt object snow plow during one particularly godawful snowstorm.
Not that I'm planning on, you know, driving the Aptera through a foot of snow. I'm sure those outriggers will snap right off. The body will make an awesome bobsled though!

I'm having a hard time with this car since it goes against the grain of my other vehicles:
'86 Volvo stationwagon, blue - "the Blue Beast"
'96 Nissan hardbody, black - "the Wheels of Death" (cause I drove so badly)
'04 Nissan Frontier, black - "the Wheels of Death II"
'90 Kawasaki ZX11 - "the Wheels of Death Jr."
'06 Kawasaki ZX10R - "the Beast" (Destroyed in an accident shortly after purchase)
'06 Kawasaki ZX10R - "the Beast 2.0"
The Ap neither conveys a feeling of deathly wheels, or of beastliness...
"Daisy" sounds fitting...
OMG... I'm feeling lame.
Ok, get a grip man, you can think of a manly name for this car! You can you can you can!

I'm at a loss... I'll have to get back to this one...

Actually, I'm old and set in my ways, and never really considered naming an Aptera in the first place. I'll call it what I've called every other car or truck I've ever owned: my car. But I had fun falling out of my chair laughing at calling it "Bucket Feet." Give me credit for being over 60 and really, really wanting an Aptera. My grand kids will drive me nuts begging to ride in it. What fun!
My father-in-law suggested "Burt Munro".

Wow. :happy0025:It's also the title of a Jefferson Airplane song from the 1960s, and I'm quite fond of Alice in Wonderland as well. And in San Antonio there's the White Rabbit bar and music venue;
