You have to chuckle when a high level automotive executive like GM's Bob Lutz is quoted as saying global warming "is a total crock of sh*t" (http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/02/13/gms-bob-lutz-global-warming-is-a-total-crock-of-sh-t/). No matter what you think about global warming, it's hard to believe a representative of a manufacturer bleeding billions of dollars, could be so close-minded and short sighted. Bob, you ain't winning many new friends...

Bob says it's not true, but in a related story 160 square miles of Antarctica fall into the ocean:

My reaction was basically, "there goes *another* ice shelf". Antarctica is losing them like a child loses baby teeth.

Of course, Antarctic ice loss is nothing compared to Arctic ice loss. Summer sea ice in the arctic is half of what it was in the 70s. Hopefully the "cold" (warmer than average, but colder than recently) winter this year brought on by a deep La Nina will give sea ice a good start. La Nina conditions are expected to break, though, so it's still not going to be a very good situation. Hopefully no new minimum ice extent records, though...
