View Full Version : Rear tail light question

All,
Does anyone know if the red rear tail light lens is made from one piece of plastic? Or maybe two pieces. I am just wondering because I can see someone backing into an Aptera in a parking lot and cracking it. Without a "bumper" to protect the back end, I would think that would be an expensive part to replace, but producing it in two pieces which could fit on either side may make it cheaper to replace. Of course, it may make the part cost more?

Thoughs?
Enjoy
Dave

One of the things that I've been wondering about is...is there a Rear light along the rear edge of the solar panel? or perhaps near the top of the back door?

Since this car has such a low profile, I can imagine drivers having a hard time seeing the brake lights especially if they are sitting up high above us (just think of your favorite gas guzzler SUV or one of those off-road style truck with their jacked up stance). Also, I was very impressed by the effectiveness, in terms of traffic safety, of the "rear window" brake light as the car manufacturers added them over the last 5-6 years.

The rear window is all of the black area on the rear hatch, the black area above the hatch is the solar panel.

Great, Thanks for the quick reply c0mp13x

So, back to Dave's original question, then since there is three brake lights (one upper and two lower), it would seem there is ample redundancy there.

However, regarding the rear running lights, Dave's question still stands.

Looking at the image c0mp13x posted brings another small issue to mind.
When you parallel park this baby you gotta really pay attention to that rear camera. Since the back end has only one wheel I can imagine someone (not me ;) ) smacking the tail lens into a parking meter or anything else sticking up close to the curb...there's no right rear tire to touch the curb first. Should be fun.

I wonder if they can solve that by using a bubble lense somewhere?

there are three screens on the dash that i assume are each fed by a separate camera (one rearward, one rear-left one rear-right) to give you the "180°" view they tout. If the right-rear camera goes low enough, it ought to help when parallel parking. I always just use the width and location of the car behind my spot to line me up.
