I really love the design of the Aptera! But when I look into the future I can already foresee trouble with license plates that are (allot) bigger then the California motorcycle ones! It will just ruin the streamline of the aptera.

Any thoughts about this? Thx :)

Hey there,

Since it will be registered as a motorcycle, I would think we'd be getting the same size plates as a bike no?

I agree with you; if the plate is too large I'm going to just have to get 'creative' with the mounting location ;)

Well when I want to drive the Aptera in Holland, where I live. I will get 1 plate that looks like this:

The size will be 21 x 14,3 cm (8.3 inches x 5.6 inches) and that is (allot) bigger then the 7" x 4" of the cali plates. If the plate would stick out on the car it will @ more drag then the whole Aptera body. :(

OUCH! :(

That is a big plate.

I'd just tack it to one side of the rear wheel housing and call it done.

The plate would then still be visible from the rear (for the most part) yet not ruin the aerodynamics of the car.

Probably not considered completely legal, but then again neither is aftermarket window tinting yet almost everyone is driving around with them.

Unless the cop behind you happened to be in a foul mood, he'd probably let it go.

Yeah I think the "solution" will be in the Grey area. This will be an issue when the aptera will come to Europe. They like big plates. This one is rather small, a car plate is even bigger! :(

The Aptera production in California will be fitted with standard motorcycle plates. It is flush in the back of the vehicle and adds no drag.

Maybe you can get a license FLAG?

Seems to me if people are serious about energy conservation/global warming, adjustments could be made in country/state governments to allow smaller license plates or even license numbers painted on the tail like on airplanes.

I agree with Dubito as of now Loremo isn't considering coming to the USA because of the complicated laws concerning safety .It's as if the government created monopolies by mandating certain crash testing during the 80's. Probably was unintentional but a few small car companies were put out of business because of new laws. Don't get me wrong I am all for safety but it is as if we were regulated to our current situation or guided there.

Agree. I would expect (hope) a small motorcycle like plate. But in my state I need to also use a front plate too (Dbl drag/ugly). I believe plates are suppose to be perpendicular to the ground to provide clear viewing for law officials. I believe they even aim there speed guns at the plate and depend on that vertical position for accurate speed determination / camera recording of your tag for mail in tickets, etc. Here you may get away "once" by a officer for temporary dash mounting... After that it is a summons.
I guess I would have to use the vertical drag already caused by on of the front wheel fender to mount the front plate?!

Let's help Apter perfect this "beaut":aptera: even more and add this to our WISH LIST (plate mounting options to address drag/looks)!

Your state requires front *motorcycle* plates? How does that work? Or does it not classify three-wheelers as motorcycles?

To be determined! Like with many things with this unique vehicle!
