View Full Version : Night-time visibility idea.

My main concern with this car is it's visibility at night. I know, it's white, but from behind and the side at night, it may be difficult to judge one's distance to it because of the unusual shape (judging by the youtube videos). At the rear it looks rather thin and small, but look down and to the front and it is actually quite wide.

So I thought, what about glow-in-the dark stripes? There are pigments that are fairly cheap and available that can glow with very high levels of luminosity for up to 24 hours with a nice bright green, a color that would go well with the Aptera logo (of course there are other colors, but they don't shine quite as brightly). This pigment would also look white during the day, keeping in tune with the Aptera's default color. So it would provide greater visibility even in complete darkness, beyond what a reflector could do, and it would do this without using any additional power. The stripes would recharge via the sun, passing cars, and street-lights.

Why not use something like that along the wheel skirts, and sides of the body? If the lines were styled nicely to fit the shape of the body, I think it would look quite nice.

I read that they do plan to offer vinyl decals eventually, perhaps they should invest in glowing decals? It would add to the head-turning, I'm sure.

Just a thought.

i image there will be lots of mods for this car

it would eat up the energy savings, but those street art cars that have neon on the bottom, i could see some nice blue neon glow coming down from the three wheel wells...

actually you could have different colors...one car might get blue, one green, etc

if we can't have a different color aptera than white, we could have different color aptera glows at night

What about the same white aptera but with retrogow or superglow paint. Then the Aptera will glow in the dark!
