View Full Version : I Need Hard Facts!!!

That was kind of a pun. I am doing this research paper on the Aptera, and I need 5 hard copies, books, of information. They need to be books and not magazines, but more info is always welcome after I have reached 5.

They do not have to be about the Aptera, they could be about hybrid engines or anything that relates closely with the Aptera. If you can find a book on the Aptera, extra points!

They should be at my public library, which is pretty big.

I want to make this paper top notch for when I present it to the class. So know that your contribution helps influence others.

My outline is due by tomorrow. So please contribute, any ideas are welcome.

I was hoping you guys would know of some stuff I could use, because you are familiar with the car.

Thanks, Love you guys!

PS: I have read the Wired article.

Yeah, books on the Aptera are going to be hard to come by ;) Hopefully a decade on down the line, there will be a *lot* of books written about the Aptera ;)

Do journal articles count? I could point you offhand to half a dozen or so journal articles about next gen batteries. But offhand, not about the particular batteries used in the Aptera (lithium phosphate of some sort). A quick google search should give you dozens of references, though, that you could pick up at your library.

Really, I think journal articles would be your best bet if they're acceptable. We're talking about high tech, so if you want to keep up to date, that's the way to go. Book-wise, I think the best you could do would be some books on electronics that you can reference when tracking where the power goes -- a physics text, for example. Perhaps a book on automobile design that would discuss losses in different types of tires, aerodynamic design principles, etc..

Sorry I can't be of more help.

P.S. -- things like the Wired article count? Then do news reports count? I mean, if news reports count, just go to YouTube and search for "Aptera" ;) If video news reports don't count, you can at least go to news.google.com and search for Aptera and get tons of hits.

Geeeze, you're as bad as me... waiting 'til the night before the outline is due!

Okay 1159... You aren't going to find many of these at the local library and they are way more technical than you probably want, but they're a start! Go to the Aptera YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/apteramotors) page and look on the right side under the user profile. There is a book list that has several related to the Aptera:

Composite Basics: Six (Composite Basics: Seven (http://www.actechbooks.com/composite_basics.htm))

Designing With Core (http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/bvpages/des_core.php)

The Design of the Aeroplane (http://www.amazon.com/Design-Aeroplane-Darrol-Stinton/dp/0632018771)

Hoerner's Fluid Dynamics (http://members.aol.com/hfdy/drag.htm)

Fun With Partial Differential Equations (are they pulling my leg?!)

Principals of Heat Transfer (http://www.alibris.com/booksearch.detail?S=R&bid=8052032140&cm_mmc=shopcompare-_-base-_-nonisbn-_-na)

Wow! Good luck on your paper, let us know how it goes...

:D

Thanks guys! I remember that book list, I'm so glad you reminded me. My teacher has gone on an anti-internet campaign, because he wants us to learn how to use libraries. Get this: He wont allow us to use URLs!

Though I think with what you have given me, I should be fine. I can cite Aptera articles, reviews, etc. as scholarly articles. It is a sort of loop-hole, but I want to have my info as up to date as possible.

I will make it work. Thanks Karen and c0mp13x for the swift response.

Ha. Maybe, we'll see how good it is.

It will probably be available to read, but you guys will already know the gist of the paper. Always fun to read about something you have great passion for.

I chose this topic, because it is extremely motivating for me.

Last year, I did the iPhone, and now I write for a professional blog. Fun times.

What are some things I should include? What would you like to see?

This link will take you to "Cost-Benefit Analysis of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technology" out of the NREL.

http://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy07osti/40485.pdf

It includes a reference section (mostly papers in technical journals). Since those references can be found in a good research library, they should meet your "book in a library" requirement.

I have a book called:
The World's Strangest Automobiles
by Adrienne Kessel
copyright 1998

Not sure if it's in your library, and this reply is probably too late, but this is a pretty cool book.
It has many previous 3 wheeled cars included, along with some pretty creative ,wacky, creations.
The 3 wheelers include:
Grinnall scorpion
Messerschmitt
velorex
Shelter
C5
several VW trike variations

Good luck, Post up when your done.

You can find 2 books with aptera featured. One is World Changing by Abrams. It is hardcover with an intro by Al Gore. Second is Future Tech which you should google. They both have parts dedicated to the Aptera but NOT the current Typ-1. It seems they are about the Accelerated Composites era of the Aptera.

Did you Google:
Aptera Press Release
??

P.S. Press Releases do not necessarily contain "Hard Facts".

Yah, Press Releases are notoriously "soft." It's essentially what the company wishes the media would write about them.

well, I cant use any online info, unless it is not a URL. A press report works. I have googled a bit, but have only found one.
