Arg. If it took 4 years for GM to make that many cars, I am screwed!

I am #1159 for Aptera.

Should we be concerned?

Not really.

* The EV-1 was lease-only, which automatically discourages buyers
* The EV-1 was more expensive
* The EV-1 was much less electricity efficient
* Gas was much cheaper then
* People didn't know as much about EVs and were less willing to trust them
* While many people initially contacted GM, most backed out after learning the EV-1's stats.
* There wasn't as clear of an environmental benefit for EVs back then.
* The Green movement wasn't as big back then as it is now.
* You needed special chargers for the EV-1
* The media coverage of the EV-1 was mostly negative, while the Aptera's coverage is mostly positive.

It's not a production issue; it's a sales issue. GM only ran a small production line for the EV-1, and they didn't even run it at capacity. With this many reservations, you can be assured Aptera is going to build these things as fast as it can. Given your number, and by the company's statements, your car should be done by the end of next summer. We'll have to see, of course, whether they can meet their goals.

Besides the sales. Here you can see a factory tour of the EV1. It's seems they only used 1 robot to put in the front windshield. The rest was build by hand! At first the production of the Aptera will be slow. But with so many orders coming in (and hoping people will acually buy) they will need to ramp up production asap. :)

Wow, I knew EV-1 production was geared for more expensive, low-volume production, but until I saw that page, I had no idea how bad it was. I'm sure that even a new company like Aptera will be geared to better volume production than that.

One big difference: Aptera Motors actually wants to sell its vehicles and is motivated to do so.
