I know it's not an Aptera, but I am very impressed by the performance of this car and it components. It has a 25Kwh pack. That will give the Aptera 250 miles range. I knew about this car earlier but this is a nice video explaining the car a bit.

And, like the Aptera, no transmission. :) EVs are great, ne?

So, looking at the X1 video I'm struck by the compactness of the battery pack..at least when compared to the Chevy Volt (see image).
The X1 pack is 25kWh, the Volt's is reported to be 16kWh. Both the A123 (on left) ad CPI packs seem much too large to fit in the Aptera when scaled down to 10kWh. What gives? Is it just all the GM thermal control and structural support or is there some other reason for the massive "T" shaped system.
I think A123 batteries are about 200 Wh per liter so get 25 2-liter bottles and they should fit into just one of those GM sections.

Volt's batteries are huge, and I've been trying to figure out why for a while. You do the math, and you come to the conclusion that it's about twice the weight of its individual cells. The best conclusion I can come up with is that the packs are also structural elements and need to be loadbearing. Or something like that. Really, it doesn't make much sense.

Its almost like they went nostalgic, and tried to use the EV1's pack for the prototype. Or maybe some of the uncrushed EV1s are test mules for the Volt pack.
