Any idea how long it will be before these are selling in New York. I know they will begin selling in October 2008 on the west coast. Does anyone have any clue how long they plan to take to sell these in NYC? It's really the perfect car for the city in my opinion. Not too large, and great on the environment. I hope someone can get an answer for me :)

Thats a good question. I don't think anyone really knows this answer yet. It will probably depend on the amount of sales they make when they start selling these on the west coast. If they go like hotcakes, I'm sure they will move to other areas like New York rather quickly. If they don't sell as well as anticipated, then it may take a while or may not occur at all.

All you have to do is move to California, Carlsbad to be exact. They are taking applications.

If the wife and I did not have business in NOR CAL, I would move there. Nice town. I lived in San Diego just 1/2 hour south of there. Now it is more like 90 minutes drive instead but should be shorter in an Aptera.:p

Does anyone know anything of Aptera coming to NY at any point eventually, or some timetable on this? Thanks.

Eventually? Yes. Aptera has even suggested expanding worldwide. As for the timeline, however, they haven't released any information.

Baily,
They are telling the truth... I'm in NJ now and I was wondering if I could take deliver before heading back west...

Aptera advised me:
" unfortunately, we are limiting our initial sales/distribution to California residents only. This is due to many reasons including our dedication to seamless customer service. We will not have maintenance centers set up in other states until the expansion of our distribution as well as all of the state regulatory issues worked out. We are working hard to make the Aptera available to everyone, but in order for that to happen we need to solve any future contingencies on a regional level first ":(

Maybe we can do a east coast survey to show Aptera they should consider the east coast next (if they aren't already) We have the population density on the opposite coast!

Meanwhile we stay close to this forum to hear from our forum colleagues' experience!

mmmm. just my opinion, so take it or leave it...but i think not any time soon...

late 2008 and all of 2009, make first batch of electric only that go to san diego and then la and then san fran

late 2009 and all of 2010, make first batch of hybrids that go to san diego and then la and then san fran...throw in some electrics for sale through out cali to keep up a bit with demand (and demand will go up as these are seen on the road)

2011, make as many electrics and hybrids as possible and continue to sell in cali, maybe open up arizona to texas...one state at a time...slowly

remember, these have not be tested at all in snow, so all states (for now) with significant snow will be off market...plus they are hoping to ramp up to 10,000 a year...they can sell that many in cali and a few southern states without having to open up stores and repair shops and such...

again, just my opinion, but until they really get a lot more production ability, they will keep sales to a few states....

Sorry, got inspired and blew 15 minutes in Photoshop that I'll never get back. :)

The opening theme ("I Woke Up This Morning") started to play through my head.

edit: found something in the image that bugged me. re-uploaded, should work now.

NICE!

But I'm pretty sure that the child seat-space in the rear is too small to hide a body.
