Hi Everyone,

I need your help. Over the last few days I have had a lot of fun generating license plates. At the end of the day I reserved three plates. Currently there is a major debate occurring between family and friends over the understanding and acceptability of each plate. I really don’t know how to conduct this survey for it has two objectives.

1.)Is the plate easily decipherable with a clear meaning?

2.)Which plate is your favorite?

Below is a little test to try to obtain the above goals. Try to follow the steps in order. Keep in mind the plate will appear on an Aptera.

Step 1
Read the following plates and see if you can decipher, and determine the meaning.

Plate A: “SPERMY”
Plate B: “PHEV4ME”
Plate C: “MY EMU”

Step 2
Let’s see how you did with the decipher. The plate’s actual definitions are listed below, after reading the intended definitions choose your favorite plate in the survey above.

Plate A: “SPERMY”: Current nickname for the car given by a family member due to its close resemblance of a sperm.

Plate B: “PHEV4ME”: PHEV is the official acronym for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. It should read as plug-in hybrid electric vehicle for me.

Plate C: “MY EMU”: An Emu is a type of flightless bird. Others have also suggested that EMU can mean “electric motor unit.” The rest should be obvious.

Thanks for your help everyone.

I don't know about your state (probably California) but Florida probably wouldn't allow "Spermy".

Re: MY Emu, it could be argued that Aptera has more to do with flightless insects than birds.Ap"te*ra\, n. pl. [NL. aptera, fr. Gr. ? without wings; 'a priv. + ? wing, ? to fly.] (Zo["o]l.) Insects without wings, constituting the seventh Linn[ae]n order of insects, an artificial group, which included Crustacea, spiders, centipeds, and even worms. These animals are now placed in several distinct classes and orders.

In fact, it even looks like an angry hornet. (I really wish I had better photoshop skills to illustrate my point)

The last one is too much of a jump; I'd go with #1 or 2, though as someone said it may not be allowable. And if it is, chances are someone may have already taken it.... or will by you posting it, lol.

Thank you for the feedback. I actually reserved and paid for each plate before posting.

Out of curiosity, what do you do with the other plates? You had to pay the $41 to reserve correct?

Good question. I haven’t really decided, there is some question if “SPERMY” will actually pass the review committee. If it does I will more than likely keep “SPERMY”, and depending on the results I may end up dropping “MY EMU” after the first year since it is my least favorite of the three finalists.

A interesting poll would be how many people buying aptera's will get a personal plate vs. just geting what's assigned.

Perhaps if you provide a "None of the Above" choice in
the poll, you will get some more participants?

UPDATE:
I just received word from the DMV that “SPERMY” was not accepted as a letter combination. Proving the DMV has no since of humor.

Since you asked... I kind of like the EMU - the spermy would wear thin quickly, the other one is to literal.
