Aptera Newsletter 8/2/2007:
http://truefox.net/classes/lib/emailblast/content/images/ApteraHeader.jpg (http://www.aptera.com/)
Dear
Aptera Family,
You live in California, Wisconsin, Canada, England, Latvia, Hong Kong, Mexico.
We may not have met yet, but we consider you our family, our core Aptera
family. We sincerely appreciate your supportive phone calls and heartfelt
emails.
Until now, we haven't had a lot of opportunity to discuss what we've been
doing. But that's all about to change. Let me share with you some of the things
that we can discuss at this point.
It's been an incredible year and a half. First, we designed and built the first
working Aptera prototype. Around here, we call it the 'MK-0.' We tested it on
the highway six months to the day we started the company, just as we had
predicted. We also designed and built an open framed, steel 'test mule,'
with the same dimensions as Aptera, to evaluate different drive train
topologies. Driving our innovation around Carlsbad in a manner that did not
attract attention was... well, challenging. Therefore, we made the decision to do
all of our outside testing late at night. You can check out our test drives on
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/theaptera) and YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=aptera&search=Search).
February of this year brought us into our second phase of development.
For some time now, we've been pursuing all the steps necessary to
manufacture a new vehicle. We've been securing agreements with tier-1
suppliers, refining our assembly processes, not to mention crash testing. As a
result of this preparation, the vehicles we'll debut later this year are 99% close
to what will be manufactured.
As the time of our debut draws near, we'll unveil more in the form of this
recurring newsletter. In every newsletter we'll introduce a new concept,
feature, or particular design challenge of the Aptera. The way in which we'll
do this is with little stories, or, 'vignettes.' Each vignette will be
graphical, with just the right amount of words. We will try to let the pictures
tell the story.
Our newsletter won't be available for download to the public; it's for you only.
If your friends would like to read it, please encourage them to sign up as
well. It's going to be a little non-traditional, but that's ok, because we are
too. This is the first of what I hope will be a lifelong conversation with you.
There are so many great things happening here, and we can't wait to share more
developments with you over time. I look forward to our dialog, using this
newsletter as an opportunity for us to get to know one another, and for us to
begin telling you about all of the wonderful, revolutionary features of the
Aptera.
Respectfully yours,

Aptera Newsletter 10/18/2007:
http://truefox.net/classes/lib/emailblast/content/images/ApteraHeader.jpg (http://www.aptera.com/)
Dear Aptera Family,
You did it, you took the plunge, and you reserved an Aptera typ-1! On behalf of everyone here, please accept our heartfelt thanks and gratitude. You've reserved an amazing innovation, and you have also given us a lot of feedback about the typ-1 and our website. We listened. Our new website is now easier to navigate, there's more textual content that's easier to find, and there's even 'Aptera' wallpaper for you to download.
Over the last few weeks, we have made a huge amount of progress addressing some fundamental questions about the typ-1. We want to include
you in our current thinking because it affects your Aptera reservation and deposit. The most important decision at hand involves the engine. Our paramount goal is to deliver a safe, reliable and problem-free car.
After much analysis and debate, we have decided to launch an all-electric vehicle first. The electric model, the typ-1e, is inherently simpler than the hybrid typ-1h. Since there is much less development and deployment risk in the all-electric model, we now believe we'll be able to deliver an all-electric model much sooner than the series hybrid. The all-electric model takes full advantage of our aerodynamic design, and preliminary modeling suggests that we should be able to deliver a range of 120 miles. Further investment capital, which we are in the process of securing, will fund the testing, enhancement, and manufacturing of the all-electric typ-1e, with the hybrid model to follow. Our goal is to deliver the first vehicles
before the end of 2008. We are committed to keeping you up to date with the progress of both the all-electric and hybrid versions.
I can't commend you enough for being one of the first to reserve an Aptera. Your support has been a tremendous validation for us, as well as for the future of energy efficient vehicles. The consumer interest in Aptera has been phenomenal, and in less than three weeks, we've received hundreds of reservations from across the country. Due to the overwhelming initial response, and the expected future demand, we have been put into a position to refine our rollout plan. We are eager to get the Aptera to you and out on the road. However, as responsible manufacturers, we need to anticipate every contingency and delivery issue before we properly expand distribution on a national level.
Our plan is to deliver pre-ordered vehicles first in the San Diego/Carlsbad area, where we are located, then expand our deliveries to the Los Angeles metropolitan
area, followed by the San Francisco Bay Area. I understand that this rollout plan may impact you. While we regret the delay that this rollout plan means for those of you outside our initial launch areas, we think that by solving every delivery, service and support issue on a regional level, we'll be even better prepared to deliver the best vehicle possible to you when the time is right.
For now, I'd like to provide you with the option of a refund of your deposit by emailing cancelres@aptera.com with your name, location, and model selected. Even if you cancel your current preorder, you are still on our priority list. You will soon be given a personalized MyAptera.com page, which is for all upcoming Aptera owners. You will still maintain your priority position on the reservations list, so that when we begin deliveries in your area, you will have the opportunity to receive an Aptera first before the general public. We will keep on
the inside track about our plans, our progress, and when we anticipate delivering to your area.
I also look forward to meeting each of you! Soon we'll send you the when, where, and how of tours here at Aptera. It will be a chance for us to get to know you, and for you to see and experience an Aptera typ-1 up close.
With warm regards,

Aptera Newsletter 10/31/07:
http://truefox.net/classes/lib/emailblast/content/images/ApteraHeader.jpg (http://www.aptera.com/)
First, I'd like to say how appreciative I am for your continued support in Aptera, and for your pre-reservation. We received a number of inquires since our last letter regarding our new roll-out schedule, and how it impacts existing "outside of California" reservations. I'd like to address these questions now, and clear up any potential confusion.
Often times in a new product rollout, the first introduction of the product to the customer can be, well, challenging. As you can imagine, there are intense logistical issues to consider. Our goal is to resolve these issues on a local level before we
confidently expand our operations.
This is a limitation we're imposing on ourselves in order to make your typ-1 available to you as fast and seamlessly as possible. We had to pick a starting point, and rolling out the typ-1 within California just makes the most sense. California is where we're headquartered, and it's the most relevant starting market for automobile manufacturers. So we will begin in California, with other geographic regions soon to follow.
Here is what this means to you if you live outside of California:
- Your priority status remains active for your state, and you'll be the first group to be notified when the typ-1 is made available. That way, you'll have the opportunity to place your orders first, before the general public. You will, however, receive a refund of your $500 deposit to the credit card you used to place your pre-reservation. We're working very hard to refund all of the out-of-state deposits as quickly as possible, and you should
receive this refund no later than Friday, November 2nd. If you do not have a refund by then please contact us at family@aptera.com.
- We are developing MyAptera.com, a new site that will give you customized access to your reservation details. You will be able to log into your account on an ongoing basis, enabling you to see the specifics of your pending order, as well as the latest news about Aptera. You will also be able to modify requested features and options, such as choosing all electric or plug-in electric hybrid, on your typ-1 until time of purchase.
- As soon as we expand into your state you will receive an e-mail, and your MyAptera.com (http://myaptera.com/) page will show you an approximate build date for your vehicle.
- When your build date is near, you'll receive a final purchase agreement for your typ-1, which lists all the features you selected through your
href="http://myaptera.com">MyAptera.com (http://apteraforum.com/) page.
- Once we have received your final purchase agreement your vehicle will be ready for you in just a short time. We are currently evaluating specific financing programs, which will be in place well before delivery. We are also working with several well-known insurance companies, so insurance will be made available to you.
I hope this makes things a little more clear. In the best of all worlds we'd have the typ-1 to you tomorrow, but I hope you understand our process and care. We are committed to bringing you the best vehicle possible, and I look forward to sharing new developments with you as they happen.
Regards,

Aptera email:
Dear Aptera Family Member,
By now you are likely aware that there are changes happening daily at Aptera. As one of our most loyal supporters and part of the early foundation of our future, we want to update you about some vital issues, including when your vehicle will be available.
Our most recent corporate commitment was that we would deliver the first production Typ-1, now known as the 2e, by the close of 2008. Despite our well-intentioned efforts, we were unable to complete that vehicle before the close of the year, so it's now slated for January 16. However, unlike prior plans, this vehicle will not be delivered to a retail customer. We will continue our builds but at a much slower rate starting with a small test fleet of the enhanced vehicles, then moving to our volume production launch on October 1, 2009.
For months we have been receiving important feedback from you, our depositor community, and we have come to realize there were flaws in our initial product assumptions -- specifically as it pertains to satisfying the needs of real-world consumers. Our greatest degree of learning came just a few months ago when we asked all of you to participate in a brief survey. This critical piece of research requested insights about your expectations for our company and our products, and we discovered a notable disconnect between our product plan and realistic expectations. Some modifications had to be made. For example, you helped us realize that some trade-offs for convenience (like being able to grab a burger in a drive-thru) might be necessary to make the ownership experience more palatable, even if it cost us a couple tenths of a point on our drag coefficient.
To navigate us through this process, we recruited a team of seasoned professionals from the automotive industry and the California tech sector. With a complete management team operating on one accord, we are now in a better position to resolve all of the fundamental product usage questions that have been brought to our attention by our initial depositors.
As we move closer to volume production in the face of this challenged economy, it becomes increasingly important for us to accurately forecast our first year's production volume. To date, we have tried to provide the greatest flexibility possible by maintaining all deposits as fully refundable, and now it has become equally important for Aptera to properly model our operations to meet demand. To address this issue, we have created a proposition, known as "Lock-in," to reward your commitment to this point and in the future. Lock-in allows you to voluntarily convert your deposit from refundable to a firm, non-refundable one and receive an addition $250 credit towards the purchase of your Aptera vehicle. In other words, we will give you an additional 50% return on your money for sticking with us and taking the extra step.
The Lock-in program is completely voluntary and no depositor will be penalized for electing not to participate, but only those who opt into the program will be eligible for the additional credit. As always, your deposit money will remain in escrow until you move to transact the purchase of your vehicle, which is when any and all credits will be applied. Aptera is not, and has no intention of using your deposit money to fund the company. We are prudently trying to plan our volume and capacity to assure we do not introduce waste into our system that could lead us down the unenviable path of some of our industry predecessors. And who knows, maybe Wall Street will see us as a role model for offering these types of returns on investments.
To participate in the Lock-in program, email family@aptera.com with your full name, reservation number and the simple message, "I would like to Lock-in". You will receive a confirmation email, and your name and reservation will be added to the credit list. It is that simple.
Our combination of automotive industry experience paired with the pervasive "why-not" attitude of the California entrepreneurial set will continue to make Aptera more effective in every aspect of our business. Our new team is teaching us fresh ways to listen to you and translate your comments and needs into the product, so here's our pledge: "We will manufacture the most efficient vehicle on the road and continue to apply the input we receive from our consumer." As we fly in the face of this challenged economy and write a new page in transportation history, we simply can't afford to cut corners. We are going to do what it takes to get it right, and we cannot get there without your help and continued support. You have stood with us faithfully and we promise that our vehicles will be worth the wait.
We look forward to sharing our dream with you as Aptera introduces the world to the most energy efficient solution for personal mobility.
Thank you for your support,
The Aptera Team

PRESS RELEASE:
FIRST PRE-PRODUCTION ALL-ELECTRIC APTERA IS COMPLETE; FULL PRODUCTION AND DELIVERY
TO BEGIN IN OCTOBER
The 2e, Aptera's two-seat, three-wheel vehicle, gets the equivalent of more than 200 mile- per-gallon
VISTA, Calif. (Jan. 21, 2009) -- The initial pre-production all-electric model from Southern California vehicle manufacturer Aptera Motors had rolled out the door of its Vista, Calif. production facility. Known as the 2e, the brilliant white two-seat commuter vehicle is the first of a burgeoning fleet of Aptera vehicles that will undergo internal and external evaluations for fit, finish, performance and durability as preparation for full production in October.
The pre-production vehicle is equipped with a lithium-based battery and features a number of vehicle enhancements such as front wheel drive, aerodynamic side-mounted mirrors and wider door openings that make getting in and out of the vehicle much easier than with previous designs. The aerodynamically-inspired 2e will go from zero to 60 in under 10 seconds, top out at 90 mph and get the equivalent of more than 200 miles-per-gallon based on a standard EPA driving cycle. Though the vehicle is still nine months from completion, Aptera has already received nearly 4,000 deposits and the 2e is attracting its share of accolades, including recognition from TIME magazine as one of the "Best Inventions of 2008" and USA WEEKEND's proclamation as one of "2009's most intriguing innovations".
"We're getting close to finalizing our final prime-time vehicle, but there's still a lot of work to accomplish to manufacture an ultra-high efficiency vehicle," says Aptera President and CEO Paul Wilbur, who boasts more than 25 years of product planning and development, marketing and finance experience for Ford, Chrysler and other manufacturers. "Just look at the 2e and you understand that it's an aerodynamic marvel. We now have to make the final refinements in the upcoming months, squeezing out every ounce of positive performance, and then we'll have the first safe, affordable all-electric vehicle on the market."
With an expected cost between $25,000 and $45,000, and a driving range of more than 100 miles-per-charge, initial sales will solely be in California, with plans to distribute the Aptera to the rest of the United States by late 2010.
"With the 2e set to hit the streets later this year, and with additional models already on our drawing board, Aptera will create some 1,500 jobs and more than 100,000 vehicles in the next five years," says Aptera founder Steve Fambro. "We hope to change everyday driving forever by offering incomparable mileage and innovative technology at prices people can afford."

APTERA MOTORS GOES TO WASHINGTON
With its all-electric vehicle set for Q4 launch, SoCal manufacturer to update legislators about its American-made 'aerodynamic marvel' that gets the equivalent of more than 200 mpg
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VISTA, Calif. (Mar. 12, 2009) – The Obama Administration has established a goal for the U.S. transportation industry: put 1 million plug-in hybrid cars on the road by 2015; cars built in America that get up to 150 miles per gallon. In the fourth quarter of this year, Aptera Motors in Vista, Calif., just north of San Diego, will begin manufacturing its 2e plug-in, an all-electric three-wheeled two-seater that gets the equivalent of over 200 mpg, goes 100 miles on a single charge and has a top speed of 90 mph.
However, because the aerodynamically designed vehicle has a three-wheeled architecture -- which, according to Aptera engineers, improves highway efficiency by more than 25 percent due to lower resistance and weight -- the Department of Energy is not permitted to grant a loan. As a matter of law, the DoE is adhering to the Advance Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Incentive Program, which makes funds available to support the development of fuel efficient vehicles – currently limited to four-wheeled vehicles.
"We've received financial backing from funders like Google and IdeaLab, and now we'd like to tell our story of breakthrough aerodynamic design and efficiency on Capitol Hill," says Aptera President/CEO Paul Wilbur, a former top executive at Chrysler for 25 years.
"Aptera can change everyday commuter driving forever, and even though we're a relative newcomer, we're confident our vision, purpose and results will compel federal lawmakers to rally around our cause and embrace efficiency in federal policy."
In fact, Congressmen such as Rep. Brian P. Bilbray (R-CA) and Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-CA) have introduced a new bill that would include companies that build ultra-high efficiency vehicles for consideration in the DoE's loan program. H.R.1382, The Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Incentive Act, opens the DoE's loan program to closed cabin two- and three-wheeled vehicles that are capable of more than 75 mpg.
"By unlocking the door of federal funding to ultra-high efficiency vehicles," says Aptera Chief Financial Officer Laura Marion, "companies like Aptera can compete on a level playing field with more traditionally designed vehicles, leaving the ultimate buying decision in consumers' hands."
The ultra-light 2e weighs 1,700 pounds, carries safety features such as a race car-like passenger safety cell, airbags and a front crumple zone, and has already graced the cover of Popular Mechanics as a recipient of the "Breakthrough Technology Award" for 2008, it's a competitor for the coveted Progressive Automotive X-Prize and was named by Time magazine among its "Best Inventions of 2008." Aptera management projects the 2e will cost between $25,000 and $40,000, depending on options, and with additional models and powertrains like the 2h (two-passenger hybrid) already under development, the company expects to create some 1,500 jobs and more than 100,000 vehicles in the next five years.
"The 2e is as safe as any car on the road, and its groundbreaking aerodynamics helps it to fly past fueling stations," says Wilbur. "We're taking a pair of our vehicles to Washington to show first-hand how great mileage and innovative technology have combined to create a vehicle that's priced to fit within most family budgets. We'll show how the 2e helps define energy efficiency and can be a valuable component of President Obama's green economy."

FIRST ALL-ELECTRIC APTERA 2e PUSHED BACK TO 2010
Co-founders Fambro and Anthony step aside from day-to-day operations
VISTA, Calif. (Nov. 18, 2009) — In September 2008, when fledgling vehicle manufacturer Aptera named Paul Wilbur president and CEO, the 27-year Detroit auto executive set forth a series of financial goals and product deadlines. "Aptera's production and delivery will be tied directly to funding," said Wilbur.
During the past 12 months, the company's initial offering – the aerodynamic Aptera 2e, an all-electric, three-wheeled two-seater that gets the equivalent of 200-plus mpg – has evolved from concept to near reality. Companies including Google and IdeaLab have made significant investments in the southern California auto manufacturer, and numerous potential private and public backers are in the process of doing their due diligence. However, according to Wilbur, the vehicle development progress has been outpacing the rate of fundraising.
"We're making significant progress every day with product refinements, the completion of engineering and design details, and securing meaningful strategic partnerships," says Wilbur. "However, we now have to adjust our production schedule to align with financing realities. Properly managing the resources of the company means we'll complete our first vehicles in 2010, not by the end of 2009 as previously projected.
"Aptera management is being a prudent steward of all resources to ensure future viability for the company and strong returns for its stakeholders. Therefore, we'll begin volume production vehicles once our current series of private funding has closed or when we secure financing through the Department of Energy's Advanced Technology Vehicle loan program, whichever comes first."
The aerodynamically-inspired Aptera 2e goes from zero to 60 in under 10 seconds, tops out at 90 mph and has already received nearly 4,000 deposits, which are fully refundable and remain in an escrow account. The production vehicle includes enhanced safety features, a redesigned interior cabin that is airy and user-friendly, a monocoque, structural composite body as well as a telematics and infotainment system.
"I'm as disappointed as any of our depositors and loyal followers around the country that we're delaying initial production," says Wilbur. "There's no one who's more anxious than we are to put the 2e on the road.
"Because of this production delay, we've unfortunately been forced to lay off some hard working employees. It's a strategy to streamline our spending to hone in on the items that advance our fundraising and completion of our first vehicle.
"Additionally as part of this plan, co-founder Chris Anthony is stepping aside from day-to-day activities to concentrate on his two other companies, Epic Boats and Flux Power."
Aptera's other co-founder, Steve Fambro, who started tinkering with the idea of building an aerodynamic vehicle five years ago, is taking a short leave of absence and will re-engage with the company in the new year.
"Right now my advanced work is a lower priority for Aptera," said Fambro, the company's Chief Technical Officer who directs all advanced concept development activities. "We've got to be wholly focused on funding and getting the first 2e on the road.
"Paul's leadership and (chief engineer) Tom Reichenbach's talent have led to changes in the vehicle that are spot-on. They've made the vehicle safer, it's better handling and more comfortable. Once we get through this stage, we'll begin mass producing the 2e – the most aerodynamic and efficient vehicle in the world."
According to Wilbur, "Building and launching a new car company is the challenge of a lifetime – even in the best economic times. At Aptera, this is especially true because we didn't start with an existing architecture for our vehicle. The 2e was designed from scratch, which is why we're focused on properly, and painstakingly, creating a foundation that can succeed over time; it's a chance for everybody working at Aptera to reshape the automotive world for the next generation."
