The Zivan does use a two stage charging scheme, bulk charge at constant voltage while amps drop to 2A then switches to variable voltage and current until it peaks at 200V and 0.01A to finish.
I managed to kill two batteries in the pack before gaining enlightenment on equalization. Rather than slowly drag one battery at a time down until the whole pack needed replacing, I replaced the dead and/or dying with a freshly charged new battery. With active manual balancing on a weekly basis (one charger moved to each battery as needed) I'm still at about 12.9 - 13.1V per battery. With BattEQ in place 13.03 - 13.05V! Eleven of Thirteen batteries are 17 months of everyday use. ![]() Last edited by NmGfan : 09-29-2008 at 05:33 PM. |

Has this car been mentioned?
http://www.detroitev.com/electric-vehicles.php I have been lurking in the http://www.exocars.net/ forum reading about guys building up the rolling chasis that these are based on. They turn into unreal street machines. Today, I noticed this link to an electric version. I know it's more of a competitor of the Tesla than the Aptera, but I thought I would share it. |

This is not a competitor to a Tesla, it uses basic EV parts, it will be defunct after you drive it six months. It uses a DC controller with no regen that is going out of production, it is not I viable EV purchase or candidate. Many EV's like this will be defunct in the next year or two but they do play a part in the evolution and history of the movement. |

That's right, because once you develop a produce with one set of components it is not possible to change to any others - one component of your becomes unavailable and you are dead.
This goes along with the absolute certainty that any viable EV must contain all and only bleeding edge tech and components to even have a chance in the market. Nice looking little car there. Maybe it will be a good one, maybe not. I wish them luck, as the EV market needs some good competition to drive it forward. J.P.

I really like that Pininfarina. The Joule is also pretty decent.

More pictures and few details are emerging about the new Honda Insight:
![]() (click on image for link) Flush upper "grill", narrow and sleek side mirrors, mostly flush wheels (with plastic infill), nearly flush door handles, crisp rear spoiler, and the joints around the grill and hood look tight/sealed. Last edited by NeilBlanchard : 10-04-2008 at 09:27 PM. |
