A new company in Holland put out a press release today. They are gonna convert cars to electric. But here comes the part where I think things can go wrong. They have contacts with Detroit Electric. And want to sell products from ZAP.

They want to rollout in 2 Phases:

Phase 1: Convert a Lotus Elise to electric and convert a VW Golf/Rabbit to electric. A power company already ordered 200 of these Rabbit cars. Price for the Elise: 108,750 Euro.

Asking price for the Rabbit unknown.

Phase 2: Sell cars from Detroit Electric.

Look here for more info: ececars.nl Click on "De Modellen" button. And hover your mouse over the Cars.

If someone wants translations just ask and I will provide them.

Edit: It seems Innosys Engineering is gonna provide the drivetrain. First they want to start off with one car a week in a 3500 square meter production facility. They also teamed up with Essent powercompany that will provide 10 min quickchargespots nationwide.

I really like the Smart charge system. You can program the charger so it will charge the car the way you want.

The first of a batch of 200 VW Golf (Rabbit) EV cars is delivered to the Essent utility company in Holland.

They (ece cars) claim a 300 km per charge. No info whatsoever on price or pack size etc.

300 km per charge? That must be some massive Li-Ion pack. I wonder what the utility is paying for those?

It's part of this V2G program. Info on the car is pretty scarce, it seems.

I can't read Dutch . . . so can you tell me if that is about a trial "Vehicle-To-Grid" program wherein car batteries are used as temporary energy storage for the electrical grid?

If so, that explains why they are putting such large batteries into those cars.

Damn . . . Europe seems to be way ahead of us in some of this greentech.
